What we collect, what we don't, and why.

The Cultivation Foundation funds and operates C.U.L.T. Life, a free educational platform for children. Three tiers are live: C.U.L.T. Kids, C.U.L.T. Sparks and C.U.L.T. Chispas.

None of them ask a child for anything. There is no account to create, no email address to supply, no sign-in, and no profile. A child opens a world and uses it. Nothing they do inside a world is gathered, profiled, sold, or transmitted to us or to anyone else.

Progress through a world — which missions are finished, which exams are passed — is stored in that browser on that device, using the browser's own local storage. It never leaves the device. It is not a record we hold, because it is not a record we receive. Clearing the browser's data erases it, and we cannot restore it, because we never had it.

No analytics or measurement software of any kind runs on the children's tiers. The measurement described further down this page runs only on this site — cultivationfoundation.org — which is an adult-facing site for donors, partners, funders and the board.

There is no advertising anywhere in the platform. Not a banner, not a sponsor slot, not a product placement inside a lesson. A child using a world is not an audience being delivered to anyone, because there is no one to deliver them to.

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and use it. That means a small script records the pages visited, roughly how long a visit lasted, the type of device and browser, the approximate geographic region derived from an IP address, and the site or search that referred the visitor.

It also records a handful of specific actions so that we can tell whether this site is doing its job: a click on a donation link, a click through to one of the learning platforms, a click on a shop item, a click that opens our email address, a click through to our Candid transparency profile, and how far down a page a visitor scrolled.

Two settings are switched off deliberately. Google Signals is disabled, and advertising personalisation is disabled. That means this site's traffic is not fed into advertising audiences and is not used to target anyone with advertisements anywhere. IP addresses are anonymised by Google Analytics by default.

We do not know who you are. The measurement is about pages, not people. We do not collect names, addresses or any other identifying detail through this measurement, and we do not attempt to connect a visit to a person.

Like every website, this one sits on a web server that keeps ordinary access logs — the standard record of requests a server makes in order to operate and stay secure. That is why we say no data is collected on children rather than the broader claim that we collect nothing at all. The narrower statement is the true one, and we would rather be precise than impressive.

Google Analytics sets cookies on this site to tell a returning visit from a new one. They contain a random identifier and no personal information.

You can block or delete them at any time in your browser's settings, or use a browser extension that blocks analytics entirely. Nothing on this site breaks if you do. Every page, link and donation route works the same with cookies refused.

On the learning platforms, the browser's local storage holds a child's progress on their own device, as described above. That is not a tracking cookie and it is never transmitted anywhere.

Donations are processed by Square, and merchandise orders are fulfilled through a print-on-demand storefront. When you give or buy, you are handing your payment details to that processor, not to us. The Foundation does not receive, hold or store card numbers or bank details at any point.

What we do receive from a donation is the information needed to acknowledge it and to keep the records a 501(c)(3) is required to keep — typically a name, an email address and the amount and date of the gift. We use that to send a receipt, to acknowledge the gift, and to satisfy IRS and Ohio Attorney General reporting obligations. Those processors handle your payment information under their own privacy policies.

When you email the Foundation, that correspondence is retained so that we can answer it and so that the organisation has a record of its own communications. It is not added to a marketing list.

The Foundation does not sell, rent, trade or share personal information with anyone for their own use. There is no exception to that sentence. Information is shared only with the service providers who make the site work — the web host, the analytics provider and the payment processors named above — and only to the extent each one needs in order to do its job.

The Foundation does not sell, rent, trade or share personal information with anyone for their own purposes. The only outside parties involved at all are the services that make the site and the giving work:

Web hosting — serves these pages and keeps the standard access logs described above. Google Analytics — the measurement described above, on this site only. Payment processing — handles donations and merchandise orders; the Foundation never receives card details. Email delivery — receipts and replies, never marketing.

What we do not use: third-party advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, behavioural targeting platforms, or data brokers of any kind. And no analytics of any sort on the children's tiers.

A child's progress on a learning tier lives in that browser's local storage until the browser's data is cleared or the device is reset. The device's owner controls it; we cannot see it, reach it, or restore it.

Donation and payment records are retained as long as tax and accounting law requires — typically seven years — because a 501(c)(3) is obliged to keep them.

Correspondence is retained while it is useful to the organisation and its records.

Server access logs are rotated and discarded on the host's ordinary cycle.

Analytics data is retained under Google Analytics' own retention setting and is not personally identifying to begin with.

If you live in California you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to have it deleted, the right to opt out of any sale of it, and the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of those rights.

The opt-out right is satisfied by default, because we do not sell personal information — not to advertisers, not to brokers, not to anyone, and not for minors under sixteen, for whom the law would require opt-in consent even if we did.

Traffic to and from this site is encrypted in transit. Access to any personal information is limited to the people who need it to do the Foundation's work.

No system is perfect, and we would rather say that than imply otherwise. If the Foundation ever experiences a breach involving personal information, we will notify the people affected within 72 hours of discovering it, in line with applicable law, and we will say what happened, what we are doing about it, and what you should do next.

The Foundation is an Ohio nonprofit corporation and this site is operated from the United States. It is intended for visitors in the United States. If you are reading this from the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with its own data regime, be aware that we are not currently configured to provide every protection those regimes require.

You may ask what information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, subject to the records a charity is legally obliged to retain. You may ask to be removed from any correspondence. You may ask a question about anything on this page and expect a real answer.
